CANELO ALVAREZ and Terence Crawford will meet in the biggest event of the 2025 boxing calendar and the Mexican superstar has admitted that victory over the American would rank highly amongst his many achievements.
Canelo, 63-2-2 (39 KOs), boasts an illustrious career to date, having ruled in four weight-divisions, become a two-time undisputed champion and defeated the likes of Gennadiy Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev and Miguel Cotto.
As a result, when a meeting with recent undisputed welterweight champion Crawford, 41-0 (30 KOs), was originally touted, Alvarez seemed uninterested by the proposal, arguing that triumph over a smaller and natural 147lb fighter did little for his legacy.
The fight has since been formally announced, scheduled to take place at the 65,000-seater Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, September 13 and broadcast live on Netflix around the world.
With the magnitude of the event set to trump any other during this year, the build-up for the clash between two of boxing’s pound-for-pound talents has already begun.
Speaking to Mail Sport Boxing, Canelo revealed that he would rate a victory over ‘Bud’ as ‘one of his best’ wins in what will become a 68-fight professional career.
“[A win over Crawford would be] one of the best [wins]. It is going to be one of the top five.”
As the clock begins to tick down towards fight night, rumours of undercard fights are now emerging, with one intriguing heavyweight battle already being touted as one bout of a four-fight main card on the Sin City bill.
