TYSON Fury announced his retirement on social media earlier today, leaving a potential all-British heavyweight clash with Anthony Joshua up in the air.
The 36-year-old comes off two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, claiming on both occasions that he had done enough to emerge victorious.
Regardless, โThe Gypsy Kingโ produced two compelling performances against the formidable Ukrainian, showing that Father Time has not yet creeped up on him.
But now, Fury, 34-2-1 (24 KOs), has revealed on an Instagram post that he will be leaving the sport of boxing for good.
The news, of course, has arrived as a shock to the majority of fans, with most expecting him to lock horns with Joshua later this year.
After all, โAJโ has insisted that Fury remains at the top of his hit list in 2025, targeting one of the biggest and most lucrative fights that can be made in boxing.
The 35-year-old comes off a punishing fifth-round stoppage defeat to IBF titlist Daniel Dubois, climbing off the canvas three times before getting halted by a devastating right hand.
Still, Joshua insists that he can reach the upper echelons of his division once again, but may now be forced to consider alternative options to a matchup with Fury.
And yet, after announcing his retirement on Instagram, Fury gave a bizarre message indicating that his story may not be over just yet.
Towards the end of his short video, he said, โDick Turpin wore a mask.โ
Having announced his retirement multiple times in the past, though, it is perhaps best to take Furyโs message with a pinch of salt.
