REGIS Prograis status as a free agent could be coming to an end.
Today (Tuesday) a report online suggested that the super-lightweight will sign a three-fight deal with Eddie Hearn.
Boxing News reached out to Hearn for a comment, but the promoter denied securing his signature. BN does understand, however, that talks are ongoing about a potential agreement for the 34-year-old to join Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.
Prograis had signed a promotional agreement with the now defunct Probellum in October 2021. In a podcast interview with Chris Mannix a few months later the fighter revealed one of the reasons why he chose the new outfit.
“First promise is that I’ll fight three times in a year,” he said. Prograis 28-1 (24) has fought just twice since. Both of which came last year in victories over Tyrone McKenna and Jose Zepeda, respectively.
Last month Prograis announced that he was a free agent. Speaking on social media he said, “I’ll be taking a lot of things into my own hands. Real good news. I’m a free agent.
“I feel like, now, I’ll really get all the big fights, the fights that people wanna see. The big name fights. The big name. The big money. All the belts. That’s my goal, to clear the division. Free agent, baby.”
Should he join Matchroom then he will have three potential opponents under the same umbrella in Jack Catterall, Liam Paro, and Richardson Hitchins.
Prograis is one of the very best 140lb fighters in the world with his only defeat coming in a World Boxing Super Series final against Josh Taylor in October 2019. The thrilling contest ended with Taylor winning a majority decision in a fight for the ages.
