Our panel on Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell and their favourite southpaws

Panel – What happens when Vasyl Lomachenko and Luke Campbell meet on Saturday night?

Nigel Wright
I can’t see anything other than a dominating display from Lomachenko. I don’t say that disrespectfully, as I think Campbell is a great fighter, but Loma has the best boxing brain on the planet. I think the only way Loma gets beaten is if he is knocked out cold and Campbell doesn’t possess that kind of power.

Gareth A Davies
It will be competitive for four rounds as the two 2012 Olympic gold medallists box, but the man known as ‘The Matrix’ will begin to target Campbell’s body and get the stoppage between rounds eight and 10.

Ryan Walsh
I foresee a tight technical fight with Lomachenko’s relentless energy and world title experience playing a huge part in a unanimous decision win. But Luke’s style, IQ and dimensions will cause problems for the unstoppable Ukrainian, that’s for sure.

Gary Logan
Though I’ve been trying to visualise a department in which world-class Campbell beats world-class elite champion Lomachenko, I simply cannot. Loma tops Luke in every department: creativity in punch angles, punch volume, hand speed and foot movement, not to mention his ability to up the gears. I predict a late stoppage for Loma.

Vasyl Lomachenko

Who is your all-time favourite southpaw and why?

Nigel Wright
Joe Calzaghe. I love the journey: training with his dad all the way through his career and going from a little town in Wales to conquering the world. He beat some great fighters along the way. His battering of Jeff Lacy for 12 rounds was a perfect display. He never really gets the credits he deserves but is a legend, a Hall-of-Famer and a top bloke.

Gareth A Davies
Manny Pacquiao and Joe Calzaghe are the two-favourite fighters I have covered live, given the occasions and the standing they had in their prime, but the switch-hitting Marvelous Marvin Hagler takes the gong for me. Skills, power and the desire to go toe-to-toe with anyone who fancied it, backed up by that granite chin.

Ryan Walsh
Marvelous Marvin Hagler. Possibly the best all-rounder in boxing, he could fight and box – long range and inside. He was also involved in the greatest world title fight in boxing against Tommy Hearns. Also, I must add he achieved all this in the 15 rounds era when weigh-ins were held on the day of the fight. The guy’s a legend. He was also one of my dad’s favourites.

Gary Logan
Many will say Manny, who is phenomenal, but it’s Marvin Hagler for me. Aside from his blood and thunder display against Hearns there were his violent knockouts of Monroe, Obelmejias, Hamani and Caveman Lee. He could also box beautifully, as his display against the dangerous Tony Sibson showed us. Some fighter.
