This loss doesn’t detract from what Canelo has achieved in the sport and it was only Bivol’s 20th fight so there’s a long way to go if he’s to show dominance across different weight divisions. So I don’t think it should affect it too much.

For me the new pound-for-pound number one would be either Crawford, Usyk or Inoue. For me, the three mentioned above are up there now Canelo has had this loss. Canelo still has an argument for being number one in those rankings regardless of weight, even after this defeat.

If Canelo was boxing in his natural weight class I’m pretty sure he’d be at the top of my pound-for-pound rankings. He is still an awesome specimen at light-heavy where he doesn’t have the stark disadvantages that exist at cruiser.

I thought Usyk went top with his Joshua win anyway and there’s an argument that Canelo shouldn’t fall because he went up so high in weight. But that said, for me he’s now dropped to three behind Usyk and Crawford. I’ve now got Bivol at five.
