Tyson Fury refuses to apply for British Boxing Board of Control licence

Tyson Fury makes his disgruntlement with the British Boxing Board of Control clear, writes John Dennen

TYSON FURY has announced that he will not apply for a boxing licence from the British Boxing Board of Control.

On social media he declared: “After thinking long and hard about my return I will not be applying for a BBBoC boxing licence. After the way they have handled stuff. No thanks.”

That comment suggests he does want to return to competitive boxing but remains frustrated. His efforts to reapply for a licence to box have been held up by the delays to anti-doping hearings he needs to face after testing positive for a prohibited substance.

Fury has not boxed since he dethroned the then heavyweight champion of the world Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015.

Boxing in the UK without a Board licence is problematic but it has happened before, for instance with the controversial David Haye-Dereck Chisora and Fury could seek a licence from another body. He has Irish heritage for instance.

“Make it clear I’ll not apply to the BBBoC for a new licence. I’ll go elsewhere, take my money and business to somewhere that appreciates it,” Fury warned.
