Moses Itauma is one of the hottest prospects in boxing and may soon fight for the heavyweight world title, despite being just 21 years old.

Now, two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has addressed whether the youngster is on his radar, following Oleksandr Usyk’s claim that he wouldn’t fight Itauma because he would “break” him.

Itauma has knocked out his last nine opponents within two rounds, remaining relatively untested in the 13 professional bouts since his 2023 debut.

At the weekend, Michigan’s Jermaine Franklin will be the next to attempt to provide some resistance to the Itauma hype train, but it is showing no signs of stopping.

Should the Kent-based phenomenon overcome Franklin, there is every chance that his next outing could be for the full WBA heavyweight crown, with Murat Gassiev both keen for the fight and expected to be elevated to world champion if Usyk is stripped of his title.

Yet, regardless of the rapid rise of Itauma, which has seen him become ranked as the number one contender with both the WBO and WBA, ‘The Gypsy King’ told Metro Sport that a fight with Itauma is of no interest to him, as he has ‘won nothing yet’.

“He ain’t on my radar. He ain’t won nothing yet, has he? He’s got his own career to think about. He is 21, he is nowhere near, is he? I will be a great grandfather by the time that he is up there. By the time that he is 30, I will be a granddad, guaranteed.”

A WBA world title win may change Fury’s mind, but instead it seems as though the victor of Wardley-Dubois would be a more likely world title route for the 37-year-old, if able to trump Arslanbek Makhmudov next month.
