Moses Itauma has been touted as the man who will dominate the heavyweight division for years to come, but there is a fighter from the United States that is targeting a showdown with the 21-year-old phenomenon to put himself in that place instead.

Frank Warren has been carefully plotting Itauma’s route to the world title, hoping that Jermaine Franklin Jr can provide some much needed rounds at the weekend, ahead of a possible world title shot in one or two fights’ time.

At present, it seems as though the WBA route is the one that has been selected, after Itauma pulled out of an IBF eliminator to fight Frank Sanchez. Warren could decide to stage an in-house fight against the winner of WBO champion Fabio Wardley vs Daniel Dubois.

Meanwhile, Itauma’s position in that IBF eliminator was taken up by Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist Richard Torrez Jr, who had been set to fight Sanchez on Saturday night until the bout was postponed due to an injury.

Speaking to ESNEWS, the undefeated Torrez shared his willingness to take on Itauma, with the Californian prepared to accept the fight on away soil in order to make it happen.

“I would love to fight Moses, I think that would be an amazing fight. I’d be able to hop [across] the pond and fight him, it would be a really cool opportunity. We can find out who is more like Mike [Tyson].”

Should Itauma overcome Franklin this weekend, he nay pursue a clash with WBA (Regular) heavyweight champion Murat Gassiev, but Torrez remains hopeful of landing a shot against the Brit.
