KEVIN BARRY, the trainer of WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker, believes Carlos Takam has exposed flaws in Anthony Joshua.
“His performance against Carlos Takam really puts everything into perspective now. A lot of people over the last 12 months have looked at Joseph’s performances and because we haven’t knocked the last couple of opponents out for various reasons have said Anthony Joshua would just walk across the ring and knock Joseph Parker out,” Barry claimed.
Parker scored a points victory over Takam while he was on the road towards his WBO title shot. The New Zealander’s trainer believes Takam was stopped too early against Joshua and maintains he has seen vulnerabilities in the IBF and WBA heavyweight titles after his latest fight.
He argued, “We all saw how gassed Joshua was, we all saw Joshua could not hurt Takam and it was a very, very promoter friendly stoppage. That fight showed me once again that Anthony Joshua is very, very beatable. He definitely has a stamina problem. He cannot knock you out with one punch, it’s a guy who has to put several big, heavy punches together, he’s very robotic.
“I think the guy is there for the taking and I want us to get in front of him before someone else beats him.”
But Barry also reckons Lucas Browne, who remains a possible option for Parker, would be a worthy world title defence for the New Zealander. “Lucas Browne is definitely not a keep busy fight. Lucas Browne is one of the biggest punchers in world heavyweight boxing,” the trainer suggested. “This is a very dangerous fight and a fight that we look at as a perfect lead in to someone like Anthony Joshua.”
