Stacked boxing schedule takes shape for the second half of this year

But there may not be room for Matchroom versus the Mayweather team in the upcoming boxing schedule

DISCUSSIONS to stage a show pitting Matchroom’s British fighters against Floyd Mayweather’s ‘Money Team’ are on going. But there is a busy schedule taking shape for the second half of 2016, which makes the mooted team match unlikely.

Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn said, “It’s still on going, we’re still talking but the problem at the moment is when we look at our schedule: September 3 could be [Kell] Brook or Eubank-Golovkin or whatever, September 10 we’re looking at possibly Tony Bellew in Liverpool, September 17 will be abroad for a Brit in a world title fight, September 24 is [Anthony] Crolla, October 1 is the Ryder Cup, so that’s a non-starter, October 8 we’re looking at the Hydro for [Ricky] Burns’ defence, October 22 Birmingham hopefully for [Kal] Yafai’s world title and [Frankie] Gavin against [Sam] Eggington and November we’re coming up to [Anthony] Joshua.”

He added, “The only other thing with that is the fighters that could take part are Luke Campbell, Rocky Fielding, maybe Ricky Burns… They’re quite geographically spread so where do you do the event that really captures the imagination of the city? I’m not sure how much Floyd’s going to enjoy sitting in Leeds having pints rain down on him, do you know what I mean? It has to be in a city that’s going to embrace the format.”
