Having claimed world honours back in February, Ryan Garcia has been hoping to secure a big fight to enhance his superstar status
Garcia comfortably decisioned WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios to get his hands on his first world title and potentially tee up a rematch with fierce foe and fellow welterweight world champion Devin Haney (WBO).
The second fight between the pair would revisit one one of the most bitter rivalries in the sport today. Garcia beat Haney on the night when they fought in 2023, though the result was later overturned to a no contest when a failed doping test came to light.
Despite Garcia recently saying he ready to run it back with Haney in July, and Haney saying it can happen next as long as there is strict drug testing in place, it appears there will be a fight for each man in the interim.
On a Kick stream, ‘King Ry’ declared that he will face off with two-division world champion, Teofimo Lopez, on Saturday, July 25.
“[My next fight is ] July 25th. [I’m f***ing up] Teofimo. Bring him on.”
Lopez lost his WBO super-lightweight world title to Shakur Stevenson at the beginning of the year, but ‘The Takeover’ has proven that he is capable of overcoming some of boxing’s most skilled operators, boasting wins over the likes of Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor. Shortly after the defeat, he confirmed that he is indeed moving up to welterweight.
Despite coming off a conclusive loss, Lopez would be one of the biggest names on Garcia’s record alongside Gervonta Davis and Haney.
