ROBSON CONCEICAO must make the first defence of his WBC super featherweight world title against the man he beat, O’Shaquie Foster, after a rematch was ordered by the World Boxing Council.

On July 6 in the third defence of his belt Foster lost to the Brazilian challenger by split decision. Judge Ron McNair scored the bout 116-112 to Foster while judges Tony Lundy and Paul Wallace favoured Conceicao 116-112 and 115-113.

The verdict was met with puzzlement in the venue and on social media with many believing the champion deserved the nod. And on the Boxing News app no-one scored the fight for Conceicao.

Earlier today (July 22) WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman made the announcement on social media platform X.

“The WBC Board of Governors has ruled to order a direct rematch between WBC super featherweight champion Robson Conceicao & former champion @OshaquieFoster.”

The news will come as a relief to Foster who shared his anger and frustration with the original result on X the day after his loss.

“Dirty game,” he wrote. “One of the easiest fights of my life. We will be doing everything possible to make this right. But I will tell yall this – in the rematch he not making it to 12 (I) promise you that.”

The fight itself was one to forget with action at a premium. Fingers crossed the rematch is a much better spectacle.
