It has been revealed who is set to promote the upcoming Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua fight.
Fury and Joshua both won warm-up bouts in July that was set to lead straight into their long-awaited showdown, but delays began to develop after the two sides were unable to agree on the location of the bout.
Broadcaster Netflix initially wanted to host the bout at Madison Square Garden in New York, with UFC and Zuffa Boxing chief Dana White previously revealing he had negotiated to stage the fight there.
That didn’t sit well with Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn who wanted the fight to be in the UK, and has led to a bitter war of words between Hearn and White throughout the year, with Hearn claiming that White and Zuffa can’t be part of the event.
After months of deliberations, it has finally been officially confirmed that the bout will take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Friday 11 December, meaning that Joshua and Hearn got their wish to have the event staged in Britain.
It seems that the saga between Hearn and White isn’t ending yet though, after it was revealed by Netflix that White is set to act as the promoter for the event alongside The Ring.
“The Ring and Dana White will collaborate to promote the monumental event.”
Hearn has disputed that claim by Netflix though, as he told The Independent that White will not be involved.
“We expect the contracts to be honoured and unless we decide otherwise, Dana White cannot be involved in the fight.”
A launch press conference for the event is scheduled for September 30, where even more drama between not only Fury and Joshua, but now White and Hearn, is likely to unfold.
