Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather may rematch in just a few months’ time, eleven years on from their first record-breaking contest. Shane Mosley, who faced both, gives one man the edge.

Mosley faced Mayweather in 2010 and made a fast start, buckling Floyd’s knees in the second round thus becoming the first man to truly hurt the defensive master. It proved to be a brief window of success, however, as Mayweather took control with his accuracy and movement, winning a wide unanimous decision.

A year later, Mosley challenged Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title, but was outclassed throughout. Pacquiao dropped him early and dominated the fight en route to a comfortable points win, with Mosley offering little resistance over the twelve rounds.

Speaking to ES News, ‘Sugar’ Shane weighed up the rematch and leaned towards Pacquiao, citing his recent fight against Mario Barrios as valuable activity.

“We don’t know what Mayweather has in the tank, right? He hasn’t had a fight. He’s been sparring and stuff, but he hasn’t had a fight. Pacquiao’s been fighting real competition, so I give Pacquiao the edge in this fight. But, Mayweather is Mayweather, so you never know. I would probably lean towards Pacquiao more, but we’ll see.”

Mosley’s prediction may or may not be put to the test, with conflicting reports still making the rematch seem at risk. Following his comments downplaying the plans and stating that it would be an exhibition rather than a professionally sanctioned bout, Mayweather has not since confirmed he plans to go ahead with it.

Pacquiao, on the other hand, remains adamant that binding contracts mean it will happen as it was announced – pro rules, records at stake and broadcast on Netflix.
