PROMOTER Mick Hennessy today revealed that the Tyson Fury vs Wladimir Klitschko rematch could well be headed to England in July.
It was previously believed May or June were the preferred months for the much-anticipated clash to take place, but July now looks more likely.
Speaking to Boxing News, Hennessy said: “Negotiations are going very well for it to be in this country [England] in July. It’s looking like July in the UK. It’s a stadium fight. That’s all I can say for now.”
Wembley Stadium has been a mooted venue, though those details – along with UK broadcasters – are yet to be finalised.
While Hennessy maintains the delay in locking down a date and venue has been due to issues with marrying up dates between potential broadcasters and venues, Tyson’s uncle and trainer, Peter Fury, claims it is more to do with his side doing their absolute best to make sure the fight takes place in England.
“I’m 90 per cent optimistic we’ll get this fight in July and in this country. That’s what all the hold’s up been, because we’ve been trying to get it over here,” he told us.
“All good things are worth waiting for. I’m sure it will get announced in the next two or three weeks and then everyone’s got another big fight to look forward to.”
