THE eagerly anticipated light-heavyweight grudge match between Lewis Edmondson and Ezra Taylor has been postponed.
Their British title clash was set as chief support to the Joseph Parker-Fabio Wardley heavyweight headliner this Saturday at London’s O2 Arena, live on DAZN pay-per-view.
RING magazine reported on X earlier this morning that the fight will no longer go ahead following an injury sustained by Edmondson. Boxing News has reached out to promoter Queensberry to find out whether Taylor will remain on the bill.
Edmondson, 11-1 (3 KOs), and Taylor, 12-0 (8 KOs), have been embroiled in a heated rivalry for months, with tensions spilling over during a recent face-off filmed for the build-up. It remains to be seen whether their fight will be rescheduled for a later date.
British champion Edmondson was due to make the first defence of his Lonsdale Belt after dethroning Dan Azeez 12 months ago. Since then, he has gone 1-1 in bouts against Oluwatosin Kejawa and Daniel Lapin.
The unbeaten and heavy-handed Taylor, 10-0, has been tipped for big things and most recently earned a points win over Troy Jones in a step-up contest.
Losing Edmondson-Taylor is a major blow to the Parker-Wardley undercard, which will now proceed with Danny Quartermaine vs Royston Barney-Smith, Juergen Uldedaj vs Rolly Lambert Fogoum, Mitchell Smith vs Arnie Dawson, and a number of prospects filling out the rest of the bill.
