DILLIAN WHYTE and Joseph Parker hit the scales today at Spitalfields in London for their heavyweight clash on Saturday (July 28) at London’s O2 Arena.

Scowling as he stepped forward, Dillian Whyte weighed in at 18st 6lbs 9oz. Whyte is a heavy man and a power puncher. He expects to bring that to bear on Saturday. For their face off Whyte stood very close to Parker, virtually nose to nose, looking to intimidate his opponent. Parker didn’t step back. But he did, for a moment, look away.

New Zealand’s Parker at 17st 4lbs is the lighter man. But he believes being trim for the division is to his advantage, and an indicator for how fit he was for his training camp for this fight. “We’ve entered training camp at a good weight. For the [Anthony] Joshua fight we entered at about 121kgs, went all the way down to 107.5kgs. This time we started camp at 110kgs so it’s a big difference,” he told Boxing News.

Another heavyweight clash features on the undercard. Dereck Chisora, who weighed 17st 11lbs 7oz, faces Carlos Takam, himself a former Anthony Joshua challenger. Takam scaled 17st 8lbs 3oz and expects a victory to return him to the upper echelons of the heavyweight division.

Unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor, weighing 9st 8lbs 3oz, will defend against American Kimberly Connor, who scaled 9st 6lbs 8oz.
