EARLIER this week, Boxing News reported that Zhilei Zhang was one of two heavyweights in the frame to be Derek Chisora’s final opponent. It is now understood that Chisora has turned down that fight, with an alternate foe now considered to be the front runner.
Despite previously declaring his February victory over Otto Wallin as his last on British soil, Chisora, 36-13 (23 KOs), is set to headline the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester for his fiftieth and final professional contest this December.
Whilst the announcement for Chisora’s final outing was made last month, the opponent is still yet to be arranged.
Just days ago, Boxing News’ sources revealed that ‘Big Bang’ Zhang, 27-3-1 (22 KOs), was one of two names being looked at for the scrap, with the Chinese fan-favourite delaying a return to his home nation in favour of the possible clash with ‘Del Boy’.
However, it is now believed that Chisora has turned down that proposal and turned his attention elsewhere, but that a deal has still not been completed.
Currently, BN sources suggest that Chisora is instead eyeing up the opportunity to finally face controversial American, Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller, 26-1-2 (22 KOs).
Miller was expected to be Chisora’s opponent back in February, but negotiations collapsed in the November prior, opening the door for Wallin to step in and take the New Yorker’s place.
