DAVID HAYE may be promoting the likes of Joe Joyce under his Hayemaker Ringstar banner, but the former two-weight world champion has not given up on his in-ring career just yet.

Haye, who turns 37 next month, has revealed that his return to action will take place soon. “I’m going to be fighting before the end of the year – definitely,” Haye confirmed.

The ex-unified world cruiser king and WBA heavyweight titlist was understandably reluctant to talk too much about his own fighting career at the press conference to announce his charge Joyce’s pro debut. Instead, the Bermondsey man was happy eulogising about Joyce’s potential, while praising the durability of Joe’s upcoming opponent, Ian Lewison.

“Joe has all the tools to be the best heavyweight on the planet,” Haye said. “He’s called ‘The Juggernaut’, because he just keeps on coming.

“I’ve sparred Lewison on many occasions, but I never knocked him down. He’s got a great chin. This is a real, genuine fight.”

When asked what could be next for Joyce, if the 6ft 6in Londoner gets past Lewison, Haye responded: “We’ve got to start looking at former champions. We’ve got to look at fighters in America and Europe. I’m thinking about Commonwealth and British titles.

“I don’t want to start making unrealistic ambitions, but competing for a world title in under 10 fights is a strong possibility for Joe.”
