Ryan Garcia has sent a warning to Floyd Mayweather over their proposed fight.
After successfully defending his WBC welterweight title against Conor Benn in September, Garcia was linked to a shock match-up against boxing legend Mayweather.
It’s been nearly a decade since Mayweather last competed professionally, with his last bout coming in August 2017 against Conor McGregor, but the 49-year-old has been in talks for a return throughout 2026.
Initially it seemed like that could come against former foe Manny Pacquiao, but after that bout failed to materialise, Garcia has now emerged as the surprise frontrunner to face Mayweather.
‘King Ry’ has made it clear that he won’t be waiting forever though, after posting on social media to insist that Mayweather doesn’t have long left to agree to the match-up.
“ATTENTION RED FLOYD MAYWEATHER. You called me and wanted this fight and I agree this is a big fight. But I am fighting FEB 6th regardless so unless you actually make this happen then this fight is gone.
“You can go fight whoever but this is for a championship. I will TAKE you 0 with pleasure. Final warning no more games let’s make it happen.”
With Garcia insisting that he will be fighting in February no matter what, the likely opponent if not Mayweather appears to be WBA welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
If it does happen, it may not be a unification clash though, as Lopez has been ordered to defend his belt against mandatory challenger Jack Catterall, so could be forced to vacate if he is to go ahead with a Garcia fight.
