Cornelius Bundrage believes he’ll fight Floyd Mayweather next year

IBF world light-middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrage plans to fight Floyd Mayweather next year after defending his belt against unbeaten Jermall Charlo in September.

At 42, the Detroit fighter is the oldest current world champion and the oldest light-middleweight world champion in history, having recaptured the crown he lost to Ishe Smith two years ago by outpointing Carlos Molina last October.

Bundrage revealed to Boxing News that he is positive Mayweather will fight Andre Berto on September 12, but that he will meet the pound-for-pound star next year.

“If Mayweather decides to fight for a 50th time, I think it will be against me,” he said.

“We’re both from Michigan [Mayweather was born in Grand Rapids], we’re the only world champions from Michigan right now. We’ve got belts in the same division, it’s time for us to glove up.”

Bundrage also detailed his plans for the rest of 2015, confirming that he will appear on Mayweather’s undercard in September.

He said: “I’m fighting September 12 on the Mayweather undercard. I’m defending my title against Jermall Charlo and after I take care of him I’d like to fight one time before the end of the year and then I’ll be looking at Mayweather.”
