Caroline Dubois plots undisputed clash with Alycia Baumgardner

WBC world lightweight champion Caroline Dubois believes that Alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed super-featherweight queen, could soon emerge as the perfect dance partner.

But before anything else, the 24-year-old has her heart set on claiming all the jewellery at 135lbs, starting with a potential unification against Terri Harper.

The WBO champion has occupied the top of Dubois’ hit list for quite some time, only for their all-British dustup to remain a few signatures away from materialising.

Yet still, ‘Sweet Caroline’ hopes that she and Harper will collide later this year, allowing Beatriz Ferreira and Stephanie Hann – the remaining lightweight titlists – to square off in the meantime.

Two-time Olympic medallist Ferreira comes off a unanimous decision victory over Maria Ines Ferreyra, retaining her IBF strap in predictably comprehensive fashion earlier this month.

For Dubois, 11-0-1 (5 KOs), meanwhile, an ideal world will see the Brazilian lock horns with newly-crowned WBA champion Hann, clearing a pathway towards her undisputed dream.

At the same time, though, the southpaw technician is led to believe that Baumgardner, 15-1 (7 KOs), has expressed an eagerness to face her in the not too distant future.

‘The Bomb’ will face Jennifer Miranda on July 11, making a defence of her undisputed crown on the undercard of Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano 3.

But after that, a move up to lightweight appears likely for Baumgardner, who tested positive for banned substance mesterolone – before getting cleared by the WBC – back in 2023.

With the 31-year-old boasting one of the more high-profile names in and around her division, too, it only makes sense for Dubois to view the matchup as a lucrative, and indeed career-defining, opportunity.

“If I had it my way – which I’m hoping for, and my team is also hoping for – the Terri Harper fight will get made next, Beatriz can fight Hann, and then we can have an undisputed fight soon after,” Dubois told Boxing News.

“I’ve heard Alycia Baumgardner say that she wants to move up and fight me, so that’s a big name and a big fight. I’m very interested in that.

“I would love to become the undisputed champion [at 135lbs], then fight Alycia Baumgardner, then move up in weight.”
