Campbell Hatton retires from boxing aged 24

FOLLOWING back-to-back defeats, Campbell Hatton, the son of boxing legend Ricky Hatton, has decided to hang up the gloves and move away from the limelight.

Hatton, 14-2 (5 KOs), has operated under the a glaring microscope ever since his professional debut back in 2021, learning on the job after turning over with very little amateur experience.

The proud Mancunian, who campaigned at super-lightweight, often came under fire from the public, with some believing that it would have been more beneficial for ‘The Hurricane’ to see out his apprenticeship on lower profile cards.

Nevertheless, Hatton secured a Central Area title shot against James Flint last year, but came second best in a gruelling encounter and, subsequently, lost his undefeated record.

Just seven months later, the pair ran it back in another battle of attrition, but once again, Hatton fell short and dropped a second unanimous decision to the South Yorkshireman.

And now, in an interview with Boxing Now, Ricky Hatton has confirmed his son’s retirement, adding that Campbell has accepted a job in the solar panel industry.

“Campbell won’t be fighting again,” ‘The Hitman’ said. “He didn’t have a lot of amateur experience; he gave it a go in the amateurs and then he went pro and gave it a go.

“He fought for the [Central] Area title and got beat, and I thought he lost it to be fair. Then, he fought the same lad straight away and I thought that he won the second one, but he didn’t get the decision.

“They were both very close fights, but I think that he lost a little bit of his mojo, then he had a few things go wrong. He sadly lost one of his best friends, Justin, [who] passed away at 27 years of age, so he went through a bit of a [bad] time.

“He was in the gym, he lost his mojo, his heart wasn’t in it and I said, ‘listen, son, you should be very proud of yourself. You have given it a go but if you have lost your mojo then you need to get out of this game’.

“You can’t play at boxing. You can play at any other sport, but you can’t play at boxing, so I advised him and now he is [fitting] solar panels.”
