Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte has shared his thoughts on this weekend’s showdown between two-time opponent Derek Chisora and former WBC ruler Deontay Wilder.

Whyte and Chisora first collided in 2016, when ‘The Bodysnatcher’ got the better of Chisora via a captivating split-decision win at Manchester Arena – a career-best triumph for Whyte at that time.

Two years later, Whyte went to war with his British rival again, but this time he secured a more conclusive and concussive win, as he knocked Chisora out cold whilst behind on the scorecards in round 11 of their O2 Arena clash.

After years of waiting, Whyte was finally granted a world title challenge in 2022, but he fell short against WBC champion Tyson Fury, as he was knocked out at Wembley Stadium.

A first-round defeat to Moses Itauma has all but ended any hopes of a second title challenge for Whyte, but recent rumours suggest he may secure a rematch with Anthony Joshua later this year.

In an interview with iFL TV, discussing a fight involving two other potential dance partners in Chisora and Wilder, Whyte declared his belief that this weekend’s offering is a ’50/50’ fight due to Wilder’s fabled punch power.

“I genuinely think it’s a 50/50 fight, because he [Wilder] can still punch.”

“Of course [he can still knock Derek out].”

Wilder will be looking to improve his recent fortunes having lost four of his last six fights, while Chisora heads into the bout on the back of three straight victories.

The fight takes place at the O2 Arena on Saturday night, atop of MF Pro’s second professional boxing bill, where the likes of Viddal Riley and Denzel Bentley appear on the undercard.
