ANTHONY Cacace has swung his attention towards world honours after delivering a destructive ninth-round finish against Leigh Wood.
His emphatic stoppage victory arrived last night at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England, where the relentless Irishman extended his ruthless surge on away soil.
The 36-year-old’s next outing, however, could take place in more familiar territory, with Queensberry Promotions’ boss Frank Warren teasing a possible homecoming later this year.
But while Belfast, it seems, is the likely destination for Cacace’s yet-to-be-announced assignment, a scintillating run of activity on the road has nonetheless given his career a late boost.
With dominant victories over Joe Cordina and Josh Warrington taking place last year, ‘Anto’ entered his showdown against Wood, 28-4 (17 KOs), with a tremendous degree of confidence.
It was not long, therefore, before another comprehensive performance began to take shape, as after scoring a ninth-round knockdown, Cacace, 24-1 (9 KOs), ultimately forced his opponent’s corner to throw in the towel.

And then, shortly after the punishing display, Warren insisted that a Belfast brawl is indeed in the works, with WBC world champion O’Shaquie Foster later being mentioned as a potential opponent.
The American comes off a split decision victory over Robson Conceicao, exacting his revenge following a highly contentious defeat to the Brazilian earlier last year.
His next outing, meanwhile, is likely to be against Stephen Fulton, who, according to promoter Tom Brown, is bidding to become a three-division world champion.
But regardless of whether that matchup takes place, it would appear that Cacace – after relinquishing his IBF strap earlier this year – is eager to become a two-time world champion while, perhaps more importantly, making life-changing sums of money.
“I think [Foster is] who it is – that’s who we’ll get,” Cacace told Boxing News’ Andi Purewal.
“We’ll fight for the WBC [title] in Belfast soon. O’Shaquie hasn’t really [had] the opportunities, so that’s a big opportunity for him – to come over and fight me in Belfast.
“We’ll just have to see if he’s got the guts. I’ll knock him out [if the fight materialises].”
