“An exhibition that will blow you away” – Boxing meets art along the River Rhine
Ingo Wegerich.

INGO WEGERICH may not be a name boxing fans are familiar with.

The German is not your typical admirer of the sweet science. In fact, a visit to an ongoing art exhibition at the German Sport and Olympia Museum in Cologne will tell you everything you need to know about Wegerich’s love and passion for boxing. The museum is situated in Cologne’s Rheinauhafen, an urban regeneration project in the city located along the river Rhine.

Ingo Wegerich’s Boxing Art Exhibition is a feast for the eyes featuring the works of Richard T. Slone, LeRoy Neiman, Jay Connolly and more. And from Ali to AJ, Calzaghe to Canelo there are many stunning pieces of work capturing the art of boxing in all its glory.

“The exhibition combines history, sport and art,” Wegerich said.

Commenting on the collection, museum director Dr Andreas Höfer said, “A remarkable collection, great paintings – an exhibition that will blow you away.”

From the 1930s to the present day The Ingo Wegerich Fine Art Collection is one of the most extensive of its kind. A number of pieces feature signatures of the fighters sometimes after the fights depicted, which gives them an added historic touch and extra worth.

So, whether you’re a sports enthusiast, someone who just watches the big fights or a sweet science connoisseur the paintings of Muhammad Ali, Floyd Mayweather, Jack Dempsey, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, and legendary fights such as Ali-Frazier, Canelo-Golovkin and Fury-Wilder, and many, many more are a visual treat that will live long in the memory after you visit.
