PUERTO RICAN idol Miguel Cotto returned to his homeland on Monday ahead of an operation on his ruptured left biceps tendon on Wednesday.
37-year-old Cotto suffered the injury in the seventh round of his farewell fight against Sadam Ali on Saturday (December 2) in New York.
Physiotherapist Jose Cruz told Puerto Rican newspaper Primer Hora that the rehabilition could take up to a year. “Cotto’s injury was serious, very serious. Any other boxer may have been pulled out. The pain he felt in his left arm must have been brutal. It’s admirable what he did,” added Cruz.
“It was impossible for the arm to be functional with an injury of this magnitude and the recovery time is considerable,” said Cruz.
Bryan Perez, CEO of Miguel Cotto Promotions, does not foresee any complications and expects Cotto to make a full recovery after rehab.
