LIAM DAVIES may be chasing a world title fight but the appeal of one particular big domestic fight still remains.
The unbeaten 28-year-old returns to the ring on November 2 against Shabaz Masoud four months on from their original date which was postponed because of an injury suffered by Davies.
Davies is currently ranked in the top five with the IBF and WBC but all four sanctioning body titles belong to Japanese phenom Naoya Inoue. A fight against Inoue is top of Davies’ wish-list but he is well aware he would start as an underdog. Closer to home a big domestic super-bantamweight fight against Queensberry stable-mate Dennis ‘The Menace’ McCann could be on the table in 2025.
When asked by Boxing News if he thought he had moved beyond a fight against the European champion, Davies answered: โNah, I still think that fight could happen.โ
Davies then switched positions and asked BN a question. โWould you tune in?โ The answer was yes.
โThatโs what itโs about,โ Davies added. โItโs about getting people interested and tuning in. I see that as a big, big fight. Iโm hoping it will happen down the line.
โIf they ask me Iโll be ready to go. I never ask who, just when and thatโs all I need to know. Dennis is doing his own thing and I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully we meet one day but Iโm not too sure when itโs going to be. If it ever comes about Iโll be ready.โ
