ERROL Spence Jr has revealed he and Terence Crawford have held a telephone conversation about fighting each other.

The 33-year-old southpaw has long been linked to his welterweight rival, but fans have been left frustrated with nothing more than speculation to read.

Yesterday, however, Spence 28-0 (22) provided hope that one of the biggest fights in boxing is still very much on the table following a recent one-to-one chat with Crawford 39-0 (30).

Appearing on his girlfriend’s podcast On The Rocks w/ AO the candid conversation between the two gave a small insight into ongoing negotiations.

“Me and Crawford are definitely in talks,” he said.

“We [were] actually on the phone probably 30-40 minutes. We probably spent 15 minutes talking about it, the negotiation part.

“We [were] getting a feel for each other basically talking about our families, everything going on and stuff like that. Then we started talking about boxing, us fighting and negotiation and things like that. It went well. Our teams are still negotiating, we still have talks, it’s going very well.”

Spence last fought in April 2022 stopping Yordenis Ugas in the tenth-round while Crawford returned in December outclassing David Avanesyan before knocking him out in the sixth.

Since 2020 Spence has only boxed on two occasions against Danny Garcia and Ugas but has also been involved in two serious car accidents as well. Inactivity is of no concern to the Texan who says he is only interested in one fight.

“I don’t take tune-ups,” he said. “I don’t care if I’ve been out three years. Give me who ya got and I’ll knock them down or try to knock them down. I’m trying to fight Crawford. I’m a man of my word. I’m not trying to fight anybody else but him. That’s part of the reason I’m sitting out because there’s this one person I’m trying to fight.”

Spence v Crawford is overdue. Following the success of Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia boxing needs to capitalise on the momentum and get another modern-day super-fight signed, sealed and delivered.
