THE light-heavyweight debut of David Morrell didnโ€™t catch the eye following his points win against Radivoje Kalajdzic.

Predictions beforehand had the Cuban winning inside the distance but the stubborn Serbian proved to be a difficult man to shift. Morrellโ€™s 90 percent KO ratio was expected to travel from super-middleweight to light-heavyweight but Kalajdzic never looked like going the way of Yamaguchi Falcao, Alantez Fox and the seven other Morrell opponents who couldnโ€™t stand up to his power.

The 118-110 and two cards of 117-111 were fair reflections of a bout which didnโ€™t have the fireworks weโ€™ve come to associate Morrell with.

โ€œThe opponent was strong but I feel good,โ€ Morrell said post-fight.

โ€œItโ€™s [David] Benavidez, I want him,” the Cuban added. “Everyone said Benavidez is the bogeyman. Iโ€™m here, I ainโ€™t scared.โ€
