Boxing results: Nicholas Walters overcomes Miguel Marriaga

NICHOLAS WALTERS clearly outpointed Miguel Marriaga at the Madison Square Garden Theater on Saturday (June 13). The Jamaican had already surrendered his WBA featherweight title to the scales the day before, but he denied Marriaga the chance to win the belt. A flush right popped the Colombian off his feet and Walters overcame the Colombian by unanimous decision, handing Miguel his first professional loss. The scores were 119-108, 118-109 and 117-110 after 12 rounds. Marriagaโ€™s defeat means the WBA featherweight world title remains vacant.

Puerto Ricoโ€™s next hero, Felix Verdejo put in a star turn on the undercard. He dropped Ivan Najera with well-timed knockdowns in the fifth and seventh rounds to win a unanimous decision after 10 rounds. 22-year-old is now 18-0 (13) after completing his first 10-rounder.
