NICHOLAS WALTERS lost his WBA featherweight title on the scales yesterday, when he failed to make weight for his clash with Miguel Marriaga tonight (June 13) at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York.
On his second attempt to make the weight, Walters could only reach 127lbs, one pound over the limit. It means he loses his world crown, although Marriaga, who weighed 125 1/4lbs, could still winย the vacant belt if he is victorious tonight.
Walters is now expected to move up in weight, which would see hopes of an exciting unification clash with Vasyl Lomachenko fade.
Exciting Puerto Rican prospect Felix Verdejo, 133lbs, is also on the bill, against Ivan Najera, 131 1/2lbs.
