BEN SHALOM confirms there will be a hearing following Chris Eubank Jrโs โegg slapโ on Conor Benn at Tuesdayโs press conference between the two British rivals.
Eubank Jr, 34-3 (25 KOs) and Benn, 23-0 (14 KOs), will collide at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in April, reigniting their fatherโs rivalry from over 30 years ago.
They were originally meant to fight in October 2022, but the fight was called off after โThe Destroyerโ Benn failed two drug tests and was therefore suspended from boxing. However, after a long-winded two-year battle to clear his name, his suspension was lifted.
The Essex man argued that an excessive consumption of eggs raised his testosterone levels and was reminded of his tarnished past with eggs when Eubank Jr slapped him across the face with one at Tuesdayโs fiery press conference, causing a brawl to break out on stage.
Eubank Jrโs Promoter Shalom has told Boxing News that there will be a hearing with the British Boxing Board of Control following Jrโs unexpected antics.
โI think the hearing will be next week, thereโll probably be one for Eddie (Hearn) as well for his push on me, but Iโm not gonna press charges on that, itโs all fun and games. I think Robert Smith can see it for what it is.
โI think if you slap someone and itโs aggressive, then perhaps (itโs dangerous), but I think the egg was a joke and Robert can see through thatโ he added.
โThe punishment should only be a slap on the wrist; we all know what it was. Chris isnโt a violent person and behaves impeccably most of the time.
โAs he said he doesnโt cheat and doesnโt lie, heโs had a bit of fun which has made the biggest fight in British boxing. It was already big; he made a point and now we move on,โ concluded Shalom.
