WORLD FIGHT OF THE YEAR 2020
10. Jermall Charlo w pts 12 Sergiy Derevyanchenko
Exciting stuff at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville as Charlo took the best Derevyanchenko could muster en route to winning a 12-round decision.
9. Samir Ziani w rsf 12 Alex Dilmaghani
With the EBU super-featherweight title on the line, Ziani and Dilmaghani went hell-for-leather. Something had to give and in the end it was the Brit, who should have been rescued sooner.
8. Adam Lopez w pts 10 Luis Coria
Back in June, inside The Bubble at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Lopez finished his thriller with Coria nursing damage to both eyes but he was a worthy winner after 10 give-and-take rounds.
7. Ted Cheeseman w pts 12 Sam Eggington
It was great to watch Ted Cheeseman and Sam Eggington as they engaged in furious warfare at the start of Matchroom Fight Camp. It was a scrap that reminded everyone how special boxing is.
6. Alexander Povetkin w rsf 5 Dillian Whyte
Oh, the drama! Whyte looked to be on his way to a stoppage victory over an old Povetkin, dropping him twice in the fourth, until the veteran suddenly knocked the favourite cold in the fifth.
5. Murodjon Akhmadaliev w pts 12 Daniel Roman
In a delightfully-matched battle for the WBA & IBF super-bantamweight titles, Akhmadaliev got the better of Roman.
4. Gervonta Davis w ko 6 Leo Santa Cruz
The final blow will rightly define this bout but there was quality aplenty from both before Davis put the lights out.
3. Masayoshi Nakatani w rsf 9 Felix Verdejo
A late entry into the reckoning but what a battle as Nakatani overcame the favoured Verdejo in scintilating humdinger.
2. Juan Francisco Estrada w rsf 11 Carlos Cuadras
So much quality, so much excitement, as WBC super-flyweight champion Estrada defeated Cuadras in Mexico.
1. Jose Zepeda w ko 5 Ivan Baranchyk
What else could it be? Knockdowns galore in the kind of fight that deserves to go down in history as one of the best, pandemic or no pandemic. The finish, which saw Zepeda iron out Baranchyk, will live long in the memory too.
