WILLIAM Zepeda will return to Mexico for the first time in over three years when he locks horns with former world champion Tevin Farmer on March 29.
The pair collided in an absorbing encounter last November, with Zepeda, 32-0 (27 KOs), edging a split decision after climbing off the canvas in the fourth round.
At the same time, though, many have argued that Farmer, 33-7-1 (8 KOs), had done enough to claim the WBC interim strap, utilising his slippery movement to outbox the Mexican through large spells of their contest.
Nevertheless, the two lightweight contenders now have the opportunity to settle their score in Cancun, Mexico, with Golden Boy announcing their highly anticipated rematch on social media yesterday.
It is important to highlight, too, that, according to Farmer, no drug testing took place before or after they stepped into the ring the first time around.
This, of course, represents a major point of concern, as with Zepeda being known for his tremendous work rate โ throwing a total of 1087 punches, according to Compubox, in their first fight โ it is fair to say that drug testing should be of high priority.
Still, with the 28-year-oldโs WBC interim title up for grabs, the winner of their sequel will put themselves in a strong position to challenge for Shakur Stevensonโs green and gold belt.
Stevenson, meanwhile, is gearing up to defend his WBC crown against unbeaten prospect Floyd Schofield next Saturday, returning for the first time since undergoing hand surgery.
Should he come through his assignment in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, it is likely that the 27-year-old will be ordered to face the winner of Zepeda vs Farmer 2.
