ONE of the biggest British fights of the year features a litmus test for a lightweight prospect on the undercard.

Cameron Vuong, 6-0 (3 KOs), faces former British and European lightweight champion Gavin Gwynne over 10 rounds on November 30 as part of the Sunny Edwards-Galal Yafai card at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham.

Vuong, trained by Jamie Moore, was in action on September 18 beating Joe Underwood Hughes. However, the 22-year-old has asked to be moved in to tougher fights and now gets his wish against Welshman Gwynne.

It was only 10 months ago that Gwynne captured the EBU belt beating veteran Emiliano Marsili who retired in eighth round due to a shoulder injury. Gwynne vacated the belt and moved on to a fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia against the highly touted Mark Chamberlain. The less experienced Chamberlain proved too powerful for Gwynne and stopped his man in the fourth round. Vuong vs. Gwynne could be clever matchmaking or a step too far too soon for the Blyth fighter.

Elsewhere on the November 30 card Conah Walker takes on Lewis Ritson over 10 rounds at welterweight. Walker felt hard done by in a points defeat to Lewis Crocker in June and will look to regain the momentum he picked up in his two wins against Cyrus Pattinson and Lloyd Germain.

For Ritson, once dubbed ‘The Geordie Golovkin’ victory is essential. While still only 31 Ritson has lost his last two against Ohara Davies and Paddy Donovan, respectively. A fifth career defeat could spell the end of the road for the former British lightweight champion.

Super flyweight prospect Hamza Uddin makes his third appearance in the pro rankings against former Midlands Area flyweight champion Benn Norman. And Coventry’s Aaron Bowen will aim to move to 4-0 against an opponent yet to be announced.
