FORMER pro Carson Jones, who last fought in 2023 and exited the ring with a 44-16-3 (32 KOs) record has died at the age of 38. Jones engaged in a number of battles throughout his 19-year career, boxing the likes of Antonio Margarito, Steven Butler and Jesus Soto Karass, but is mostly remembered for his two bouts with future world king Kell Brook.

In 2012 Jones travelled to the Sheffield Arena to take on 27-0 world title aspirant Brook for the IBF International welterweight title. Jones pushed the fight favourite to the wire, bloodying his nose on the way to a majority decision loss.

Following a draw on UK soil with Irelandโ€™s Dean Byrne, Jones returned two fights later to England for the Brook rematch where he was dropped early and stopped in eight as Kell made amends.ย

Jonesโ€™ run of form was not over as he picked up the WBC International super-welterweight with a one-round KO of Brian Rose in Rose’s hometown of Blackpool. Carson’s final bout was a 2023 second-round knockout over James Warren in Carsonโ€™s home city.

Jones was about to embark on the biggest battle of his life, which would end in tragedy. Former IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Truax alerted the boxing community to Carsonโ€™s plight after the Oklahoma man suffered complications from oesophagus surgery.

Truax revealed on Saturday that his friend had indeed lost the battle.
