UK broadcaster for Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward revealed

THE monster clash between Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward on November 19 will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK.

It’s a real coup for the channel, who have missed out on the majority of this year’s big international fights to BoxNation.

It also serves as an encouraging message that Sky – the UK’s largest sports broadcaster – are putting more faith into boxing.

Their broadcast deal with Matchroom Boxing means they air most of the UK’s biggest nights, though they have picked up some notable international fights this year also.

Kovalev-Ward (which is on HBO pay-per-view in America) is by far the highest profile international fight in 2016 Sky Sports have picked up.

The fight, which will see Kovalev defend his WBA, WBO and IBF world light-heavyweight titles in the best matchup of the year, will be shown on regular Sky Sports.

Adam Smith, Head of Sky Boxing, said: “It is the biggest Las Vegas fight of the year and we are delighted to be showing it live on Sky Sports.

“Sergey Kovalev is a beast in the ring and guarantees action, whereas Ward is regarded by many as the most skillful and smart fighter going.

“The bottom line is someone’s ‘0’ is going to go in the sort of fight that sees the best take on the best.”
