HUGHIE FURY, the cousin of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, will fight Nagy Aguilera on March 26 at Wembley Arena on the under of the Nick Blackwell-Chris Eubank Jnr British middleweight title fight, a bill which will also feature Frank Buglioni and Ricky Boylan.
Promoter Mick Hennessy told Boxing News, “It looks it’s going to be rubberstamped for the WBC International title. Aguilera is a dangerous gatekeeper. If you’re not world class, he’ll take you out. It’s a dangerous fight. Me and Peter [Fury, Hughie’s father and trainer] had to talk about this because it is a dangerous fight. He’s got a very high workrate this kid and he can punch. If Hughie weren’t a special talent, I’m not sure we’d go down this route with a 21-year-old. Peter knows him better than anyone, he’s in the gym day in day out, sparring top fighters. He gets the best of sparring in Tyson’s training camps, he knows what he’s capable of and I believe I know what he’s capable of.
“He’s had a few obstacles in his way, health and stuff. Once Peter got to the bottom of it and ironed those out, he’s been getting so good, fight by fight, camp by camp, we’re seeing something very special.”
His vision is for the Fury cousins, like the Klitschko brothers, to hold every major heavyweight title between them. “They’re more than capable of it. I won’t take anything away from the Klitschkos because they’re phenomenons, they’ve been great ambassadors for the heavyweight division. If you base it on talent, actual talent, Tyson and Hughie are more talented than the Klitschko brothers. There’s actually more base talent there. They’re more natural fighters. The Klitschkos have worked so hard to be what they are. But for me that’s in a manufactured sense. Whereas Tyson and Hughie are natural born fighters. They’re born for this and Peter has just got such a way of bringing out the best in a fighter. He really gets their attention, he really gets them to do the best they can do,” Hennessy said. “If it’s for this WBC title [Hughie] will be going to towards Deontay Wilder but any of them, Peter’s said he’s ready. If the circumstances are right, if the deal’s right, he is ready for any of them, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, Charles Martin, whoever it is, he’s ready and this is what this fight’s about. It’s about moving him in position for those fights.”
