The colourful ‘Tornado’ from Ely, Cambs, won English super-lightweight honours on an Anthony Joshua undercard in Britain. His last fight was in Florida last July.
Goodjohn was living in Miami at the time and fighting bareknuckle, but with nothing on the table from BKFC, he jumped in with Filipino puncher Weljon Mindoro at short notice.
Mindoro was 11-0-1 with 11 KOs – is now 13-0-1 with 13 KOs – and Goodjohn was beaten in the second round.
“I went up two weights to fight that monster from the Philippines,” said the 33-year-old.
“It was a big ask, but I couldn’t get a fight so I had to do it. I knew I couldn’t win on points. Either I finished him or he finished me. I know the game.”
Goodjohn knows “the game” of pro-gloved boxing isn’t for him anymore, and the next time he fights, it will be with a bare fist again.
He has rejoined BKB and fights on their show in Cardiff on Saturday, April 19.
“People say, ‘Why don’t you go back to pro-gloved boxing?’ and I would love it.
“But unless you’re in the one per cent that gets to fight in Saudi Arabia, it’s very hard to make money.
“I won the English title on an AJ undercard (when Joshua defeated Denis Bakhtov at the O2 Arena in October 2014) and came out with £4,000.
“I trained for 10 weeks – and that is minimum wage.
“It’s OK when you’re in your twenties and chasing a dream, but the incentive isn’t there anymore. The money is terrible.
“I fought on TV four or five times and when I went on social media asking for sponsors, people thought: ‘What’s he doing ? He’s on TV. He is earning good money.’ But I wasn’t. They thought I was earning £20,000 per fight and I was making £4,000.”
Goodjohn’s next three fights – at least – will be in the three-sided trigon used by promoters BYB.
“BKFC was in a big circle and over five, two-minute rounds,” he said.
“It was over too soon. In the trigon, they won’t be able to keep me off. I will go in there and drown people. You see me at my best over three-minute rounds and my worst over two minutes.
“I’m known for my pressure. I don’t stop coming forward. I was boxing over 10 rounds as a pro boxer. I was always better over the longer distances.”
