LEGENDARY boxer Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns has paid tribute to George Foreman, who passed away in the early hours of this morning. Hearns, who won world titles in five different weight classes, took to Instagram to express his sorrow at the news that has rocked the boxing world.

“Rest in Power, Big George.

“A true icon in and out of the ring, George Foreman’s legacy will live on forever. He was a warrior, a gentleman, and a testament to resilience. His impact on boxing and the lives he touched will never fade.

“I’m grateful for the moments we shared, the wisdom he passed on, and the memories that will last a lifetime. His name lives on through his children, his legendary career, and all who knew him.

“Rest easy, champ.

#RIPGeorgeForeman #Legend #BoxingGreat”

Foreman effectively had two outstanding boxing careers that led him to world title glory while breaking records, having previously mixed in the Ali-Norton-Frazier era with equal ferocity. Later in life, Foreman became a respected preacher, a multi-millionaire from selling his self-branded grilling machines and a strong voice on HBO. Alongside Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant, he commentated on some of the most relevant moments of recent years.

Tommy Hearns, a fearsome puncher who thrived in a spectacular era of his own, competing with the likes of Marvin Hagler and ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard, joined Mike Tyson, Bob Arum, basketball legend Charles Barkley and a host of others to pay tribute to ‘Big’ George.
