The Goat: Adam Azim’s secret kid

By Declan Taylor

ADAM AZIM dreams of one day going down as the “Greatest of All Time”, but before any of that he has decided to buy an actual goat instead.

The 21-year-old is currently preparing for the first defence of his European light-welterweight title against Enock Poulsen at the Wembley Arena on February 3.

However, during the build-up to that encounter he has assumed the responsibility of legal guardian to a young goat, which he bought for £150. He paid cash.

When asked how such a purchase came about, a seemingly bemused Azim told Boxing News: “Actually when you know where to look, you can buy goats from loads of places. Once you know, you see them for sale everywhere.

“I was in the car and saw a sign saying ‘goats for sale’ so I thought ‘yeah’. There were seven or eight goats and you can just go there and choose one. I gave them £150 and then it’s mine.”

However, some construction work at his current house has delayed the goat’s arrival at Casa Azim. Instead, the Slough puncher has arranged for the cloven-hoofed infant to stay put at the farm for now.

“I realised that I couldn’t really take him home straight away because my house is getting an extension put on it right now,” Azim explained.

“But I didn’t just leave. I stuck him in the car and took him for a drive around the block first and then I took him back to the farm.

“Actually my dad only found out about the new goat because he saw loads of mud in the car.

“I’ve called it Tootsie and I go and see it at the weekend. I can’t wait to get it home, I think I will have the right set-up for it in the garden.”

The youngster’s only other pet is a hamster, which at the time of writing continues to battle cancer. Tootsie the goat is understood to be perfectly healthy.

Azim is currently 10-0 with seven knockouts and his clash with Poulsen comes within three months of his 10th round stoppage of Franck Petitjean, which gleaned the European title.
