Stephen Fulton snubs Bruce Carrington fight offer

Stephen Fulton snubs Bruce Carrington fight offer

TWO-DIVISION world champion Stephen Fulton is searching for another big fight, but it seems as though a potential showdown with Bruce Carrington doesn’t quite whet his appetite.

Fulton, 23-1 (8 KOs), pulled off the upset in a dominant victory against Brandon Figueroa earlier this year to become the WBC featherweight world champion. Fulton proceeded to silence his doubters after a defeat to Naoya Inoue and an unconvincing 126lb debut.

Yet, despite just two fights at featherweight, Fulton has been linked with an additional move up in weight and a clash with reigning WBC super-featherweight titlist, O’Shaquie Foster, 23-3 (12 KOs), as well as possible featherweight unification bouts.

Meanwhile, undefeated New Yorker Bruce Carrington, 16-0 (9 KOs), outpointed Mateus Heita to pick up the WBC Interim featherweight strap on Saturday night and position himself for a shot at either Fulton or an eventually vacant world title.

On X, Carrington beckoned a meeting with Fulton after ‘Cool Boy Steph’ claimed that no fighter that has ever called him out has defeated him, only for the champion to then decline Carrington’s offer in favour of fights against ‘bigger opponents’

You should take your own advice, you went on world tour talking. I got bigger opponents I’m about to face. Be patient! https://t.co/pIUjRN8Bwx

SF – “No fighter that ever called me out beat me or can beat me. That goes for anyone who ever had my name in their mouth.”

Instead, it is widely anticipated that Fulton and Foster will meet before the end of the year, as Fulton attempts to conquer a third weight division.

Consequently, should Fulton relinquish the WBC featherweight crown, ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington is expected to take on either Rey Vargas or Carlos Castro in a bout to determine a new champion. A fight between Vargas and Castro is expected to take place in the coming months.
