WHEN all eyes turned toward Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night, the pre-fight tension was palpable. However, once the bell rang, it was no longer tension that filled the crowd; instead, it was the desire of two men seeking a paternal nod of approval, desperate to make their respective fathers proudโand that showed in the fight.
While the build-up was littered with controversy and nostalgia, there was no denying that Chris Eubank Jr., (35-3, 25 KOs), and Conor Benn, (23-1, 14 KOs), delivered on fight night, showing all the heart, guts, and gameness of their fabled fathers. Eubank Jr. walked away with a legendary unanimous decision, setting records in the process.
After Bennโs early onslaught was negated, Eubank Jr. grew into the contest and used his experience to dominate proceedings, outlanding his younger rival in every round of the fightโincluding during that fast start from โThe Destroyerโโand throwing an eye-catching 335 punches over the last three rounds of the bout, as per CompuBox.
Not only are the 367 landed punches a new career-high for 35-year-old Eubank Jr., but they also represent the highest number of punches landed by an individual in 2025 thus far, surpassing the 344 registered punches by William Zepeda in his rematch with Tevin Farmer last month.
Additionally, the combined 582 total punches landedโof which Benn landed 215โstrengthens claims that Eubank-Benn could be a fight of the year candidate, topping the chart for the most total punches landed in a contest this year. This figure is a whopping 59 more than the previous leader, where Khaleel Majid outpointed Alex Murphy on the Joyce-Hrgovic undercard (523).
Interestingly, third place on that same list is Callum Smithโs much-lauded victory over Joshua Buatsi back in February (519), meaning that the top three fights with the most total punches landed have all been all-British affairsโa stat that bodes well for the progress and excitement of British boxing.
Yet, despite Eubank-Benn requiring two to tango, these achievements can largely be attributed to both the outrageous output of Eubank Jr. and the phenomenal chin of Benn, a natural welterweight, who landed 31 fewer punches than he did against Peter Dobson (246) in the only other completed 12-round fight of his career to date.
