IF you’re in London and you’ve heard a maniacal American barking ‘Let’s go champ!’ every five seconds, you’re not going mad. Shannon Briggs is in town.

Rather than call people out on social media (though he’s done plenty of that as well), the 44-year-old has invaded the UK in pursuit of fights with David Haye, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

While Guillermo Rigondeaux couldn’t get a VISA to actually box in England, Briggs has waltzed in to shout at anyone who will listen.

Someone who apparently isn’t listening at the moment is Haye, whose gym Briggs turned up at yesterday in an attempt to lure the former two-weight world champion into a fight. Unsurprisingly, Haye didn’t answer when Briggs pounded on the front door and leered at the security camera.

It’s not completely out of the realms of possibility that Haye will elect to fight the former WBO world heavyweight champion, given his lofty ranking with the WBA. Haye is yet to announced his opponent for May 21.

Of course, all that stalking can be tiring so Briggs also did a bit of sightseeing. It didn’t last for long, however, after police politely told him to clear off when he started telling – you guessed it – ‘let’s go champ!’ outside Buckingham Palace.

The fight with Haye seems the most likely for Briggs. Joshua is fighting IBF champion Charles Martin on April 9 while Fury is contractually obliged to fight Wladimir Klitschko again.

Shannon stated he plans to travel up north as well, listing Nottingham and Sheffield as two of his destinations. I doubt he’ll be charging hundreds of pounds for the pleasure of his company, like Floyd Mayweather did, though.

If he gets his wish for a fight with Haye, we could be seeing a whole lot more of him.

Do you think David Haye will actually fight Shannon Briggs on May 21. Vote in our readers’ poll HERE
