Shakan Pitters faces new opponent for European title

SHAKAN PITTERS will face a new opponent for the European light heavyweight title on Friday night.

The 35-year-old had been scheduled to challenge champion Daniel Blenda Dos Santos in the main event on the GBM Sports card at Sheffieldโ€™s Park Community Arena. However, it was announced today (Wednesday) by the European Boxing Union (EBU) that, โ€œDue to serious medical conditions Daniel Blenda Dos Santos is not authorised to fight until further notice.

โ€œFor this reason, being us at two days from the execution date, we exceptionally accepted the proposal of the staging promoter – GBM Mr Gostolo – to replace Daniel Blenda Dos Santos with Lee Ingelrest, who is ready and accepted to fight Shakan Pitters for such a vacant title on 7th
February next in Sheffield.โ€

Ingelrest, 25, is yet to fight over the 12-round distance and has fought just once over 10 rounds. His 13-fight record consists of a dozen wins and one draw which came against Oleksandr Frolov in September 2023 over eight rounds.

Little is known about the Belgian and while that can sometimes prove to be a banana skin Pitters, 19-2 (6 KOs), may never get a better shot to win add the European title to the British he won in 2020.
