Saul Alvarez: ‘Miguel Cotto is the fight I’ve been craving’

Saul Alvarez

SAUL โ€œCANELOโ€ ALVAREZ has longed for his November 21 showdown with Miguel Cotto. โ€œThis is a fight that Iโ€™ve been craving, Iโ€™ve been waiting for. Obviously itโ€™s a fight with a lot of responsibility and Iโ€™m up for it. Like I do for all my fights, I train very hard and prepare myself,โ€ Canelo says. โ€œThese are the type of fights that Iโ€™ve always wanted, the big fights.โ€

It has been a long time in the making. โ€œThree years ago when it first came in mind because I knew I could win. Thatโ€™s why it came to my mind. It didnโ€™t happen for whatever reasons back then. But now the fightโ€™s here and weโ€™re very happy and anxious and grateful and thank God,โ€ Alvarez said. โ€œHeโ€™s had an illustrious career, Iโ€™ve always liked watching him fight, his style, his boxing. Itโ€™s a great honour for me to be fighting a fighter like Miguel Cotto and Iโ€™m thankful to God that this fight is happening and Iโ€™m just very excited.โ€

Canelo fully expects the fight itself to deliver on its promise. โ€œThe styles will mix in well. We are going to clash well and itโ€™s going to be added to the record books. Itโ€™s going to make history. We are going to put on a great fight,โ€ he said. โ€œIโ€™m looking forward to it because I know it can go down in history as one of the great fights between Mexico and Puerto Rico and thatโ€™s what Iโ€™m looking forward to. My career is still far from over. I have many more fights to come but this is the one that Iโ€™ve been craving and wanting so bad.

โ€œWe are both going to fight. We are both going to lay it on and without a doubt, this is a fight for real.โ€
