SANDY RYAN will put her WBO welterweight title on the line against challenger Mikaela Mayer on September 27 in New York’s Madison Square Garden Theater.

Taking the first step of a rebuilding process after suffering a close loss to Natasha Jonas in England, Mayer hopes that bringing a UK boxer over the pond will help her cause.

“I loved fighting in the UK over the past two years, but I have genuinely missed fighting in America,” stated the challenger. “I’m ready to take Sandy Ryan’s WBO belt. AND NEW!”

Not afraid to bite back, 30-year-old Ryan is ready to let her fists speak volumes and silence her voluble opponent.

“Mayer has had an awful lot to say about me and this fight, and I’m sure she will continue to do so, but I’m an athlete and a professional. I will let my boxing do my talking, and I will shine in that ring on September 27. Bring it on!”

While the Top Rank main event is titled “Queens of Gotham City,” some other New York favourites are also set to participate, including a return to the local stomping ground for Bruce Carrington.

‘Shu Shu’ is closing in on a title shot and will have his hands full with Ugandan upsetter Sulaiman Segawa, who was last seen destroying the career plans of world title aspirant Ruben Villa.

Xander Zayas last fought in June at this same MSG location. On that occasion, he outpointed Patrick Teixeira. Now, the Puerto Rican seeks to hit win number 19 (12 KOs) against twice-beaten Mexican Damian Sosa.
