Roman Gonzalez added to Gennady Golovkin vs Danny Jacobs undercard

ROMAN GONZALEZ will defend his WBC world super-flyweight title against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai on the undercard of Gennady Golovkin’s March 18 clash with Danny Jacobs at Madison Square Garden.

Gonzalez was in talks to rematch Carlos Cuadras after the pair warred in 2016, with Gonzalez prevailing on the cards to win a world title in a fourth weight class.

However the pound-for-pound king will instead defend his title against mandatory challenger Sor Rungvisai, who lost the WBC super-flyweight title to Cuadras back in 2014. That remains his sole loss since 2010.

Loeffler confirmed at a press conference today that Gonzalez will face Sor Rungvisai on the New York show.

Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler, previously spoke to Boxing News about the possibility of having Gonzalez on the undercard, as well as WBO cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, although the Ukrainian has not yet been added to the bill.

It means that Gonzalez and Golovkin will once again feature on the same bill, which will be broadcast on HBO pay-per-view in the US. Boxing News understands that Sky Sports will air the show in the UK, though there has been no official announcement yet.

Sor Rungvisai is coming off of two wins over debutants, and has fought the vast majority of his career in his native Thailand.
