RICKY HATTON, promoter of Australian heavyweight Lucas Browne, hopes to secure fights with the likes of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua for his charge.
Browne fights Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title in Russia on Saturday and while Lucas cannot claim to be a true world champion should he win, he will be in a position to secure big fights.
With Fury holding the full WBA title and Joshua challenging IBF champion Charles Martin on April 9, Hatton is confident about the prospect of Browne fighting either one.
“I thought about that. ย I get along well with Eddie Hearn, who has Joshua. ย I get a long great with my former promoter Frank Warren and you can also throw David Haye in there who is back,” he said.
“I can’t see any problems making fights with Joshua or Fury and we would have some massive heavyweights fights here. ย Lucas has fought five times here and has a good fan base.”
A former mixed martial artist, Browne had a limited amount of amateur experience before moving into the paid ranks.
Trained by Nigel Benn, the unbeaten Aussie has whipped himself into the shape of his life and Ricky is made up for his man.
“I am very happy for Lucas. ย He came up the hard way. ย He was not an Olympian. ย In fact, it was just a few years ago, that he was working doors at the night clubs and he has put in the hard work,” he said.
“He has a great team behind him. ย An excellent trainer. ย It is going to be a tough job, but I firmly believe that he will win the fight. Lucas who has always been known as a puncher is moving a lot better on his feet. ย Very fluid. ย Lucas has also added speed and has had great preparation.”
